Foreword :
Natom is a software that is intended for the discovery and
explanation of the great principles of the human body’s functions. It has
been conceived and produced by Geckomedia with the approval and guidance of
Scientific Committee.
| I - Before Starting |
A - Installing the software
Remark : The minimum recommended configuration is : Pentium© 233 Mhz (or equivalent), 64 Mo of RAM, SVGA screen (800X600 minimum), 16 million colours.
1. Insert the CD-Rom in the drive.
2. A window automatically opens to invite you to install Natom software on
your computer hard disk.
3. Follow the screen-displayed instructions.
4. The program installs the necessary files on the hard disk (by default c:\Program
Files\geckomedia\natom).
5. At the end of the installation, a message invites you to reboot your computer.
You can launch Natom installation from Windows explorer : click on the icon corresponding to the CD-Rom drive : then double-click on “setup.exe”.
B - Starting the software

1. Click on the “Start” menu
2. Then Programs, Geckomedia, Natom
3. Click on"Natom”.
C - Display parameters
Natom adapts automatically to your screen’s resolution.
Choice of home page, you can show on your home page the man or woman with
or without underwear or even with following symbols.
Natom can even stores your drawing preferences (width and color).
D - Quitting the software
1 - Quitting the software
In order to quit the application for good, click on
or press ( Alt + F4 ).
2 - Minimze Natom
If you want to make the Natom window disappear for a short while, you just
need to click on
.
E - Uninstalling the software
1. Click on the “start” menu
2. Then Programs, Geckomedia, Natom
3. Click on “Uninstalling Natom”.

A - Context help
Tooltip will appear when you go over each icon, they will tell you its function.
B - Choosing the character
From the home page, you can select the male or the female
character.
You can also go from one to the other, starting from the icons representing
the male character
or the female one
,
when the corresponding charts are available..
Remark : As far as the female character is concerned, this first version of the software only includes the charts representing her breasts and genital organs. To access them, select the female character and click respectively on the thorax or the true pelvis area.
C - Navigating inside the human body
In order to navigate inside the human body you can use :
- the mouse : you must have previously clicked on “select” before
navigating (selection mode).
- Keyboard shortcuts.
- The scroll wheel of your mouse : if you have got one it enables you to move
vertically.

You can visualize the character’s different main layers :

To access the main layer desired, click on the corresponding
icon or use (

To access the derived layers, click on

). A gauge indicates the total number of layers.
At any time you can show the corresponding legend by clicking

2 - Four angle shots
You can visualize the character in different postures: anterior, posterior,
external lateral and internal lateral views. Click on one of the two buttons

to make the character rotate or use (

3 - Zoom-in and Zoom-out
You can expand the area which interests you by selecting the corresponding
zone in the main window or by using a keyboard shortcut : when you press on
the spacebar, you visualize the different selectable zones, which are associate
with a number, type the number on the keyboard in order to zoom in on the
required zone.
Y ou can go back to the previous zoom level by clicking on
,
the main character
. To go back home click on
or press
.
Remark : The mini-character, located on the bottom right-hand
side of the main window, always shows you on which body part you are situated.
4 - Movements on the character
You can move towards a neighbouring area with :
- the mouse : put your cursor (only if you have previously clicked on “select”)
on the internal limit of the main window, when an arrow appears, click to
access the neighbouring chart (superior, inferior, left or right).
- the keyboard : use the arrows (
).
Remark :
- If you have a scrolling mouse, you can use it to move vertically.
- In line with the anatomical reference, only the charts of the right body
part are accessible.
5 - Previous image / Next image
In order to go back to a previous image, click on
or press
(on the
numpad). If you want to go back to the last selected image, click o n
,
or press
( on the
numpad).
D - Tools to annotate anatomical charts
You can annotate the chart which interests you. If you click
on one of the buttons
described on the following page, you go through the annotation mode. In order
to navigate again inside the human body with the mouse, you must click on
to go back to the selection mode.

You can also access the annotation tools or come back to
the selection mode, by clicking on the right button of your mouse :
1 - Drawing tools
After having selected the text tool
,
click on the picture where you want to insert he text. Two buttons appear,
one to validate and the other to cancel the writting.
Remark : Making “copy and paste” is possible from the standard word processing applications.
2 - Other tools
After having selected the tool, move your mouse in the main window, while going on pressing the mouse button
3 - Moving a text or a drawing
You can move each of your annotations on the chart. In the annotation mode, put the cursor on the object which you want to move. Click on the right button of your mouse. Then click on “Move”.
4 - Delete a text or a drawing
You can delete each of your annotations on the chart. In
the annotation mode, put the cursor on the object you want to delete. Click
on the right button of your mouse.
Then click on “Delete”. You can also use the
button to delete the last drawing (or text) or use (
+
). If you delete
a drawing (or a text) by mistake, you can restore it by clicking on
or use (
+
).
You can also use the
or use (
) to erase all drawings.
E - Main menu
1 - Opening an image
From Natom software you can open a saved image or any one
on your computer (Gif, Tiff, Jpeg or Bmp formats) in many ways :

2 - Saving an image
You can save an annotated image in many ways :

3 - Sending image by mail
Remark: to e-mail images, an electronic mail software must be installed on your computer. The latter must be connected to the internet.

Remark : The weight of a Natom image, annoted or not,
does not exceed 150 k-byte.
4 - Printing an image
a) Print configuration
To change the printing parameters, click on the
,
menu, then select “printing configuration”. A dialog box enables
you to select : the printer, the paper orientation (landscape or portrait),
colours or B/W, etc…
b) Print preview
To view before printing, click on
then select “Printing preview”.
c) Printing
From Natom software you can print an image in many way :

5 - Help
To display the help click on

choose “Help”.
5 - Managing tabs
Click on
and choose "Tabs",
then you can either click on "Manage" or "Add" to add
the current picture in the tabs.
You can add new folders or pictures and place them where you want in the tabs. Click on the element you want to move. While pressing the mouse left button move the mouse until the element is in the right place.
F - Patient folder
1 - Create a patient folder
To create a new folder, click on
or from the “Patients visualization” window, click on “New”
or click on
and select “Patient : New”
or use (

).
A window opens to type the patient’s information as
well as the details concerning her/him. Click on “Save” before
closing the window.
2 - Modifying a patient folder
If you have not selected any patient :
To access the informationon a patient, click on
or click on
then “Patient
: Find” or use (
+
). Click on the corresponding
patient folder, then on the “Modify” button. In the “Patient
modification” window, you can change the information on her/him. A window
opens to type the patient’s information as well as the details concerning
her/him.
If you have already selected a patient :
(her/his name is written on the top of the main window)
Click on
to
open “Patient’s information” window, then click on “Modify”.
H - Right click and shortcuts
1 - Right click
Click on the right button of the mouse (annotation or selection mode) to access the following functions :

Remark : the mouse cursor must be positionned over the image but not over
a draw.
Click on the right button of the mouse when the cursor is over a draw in order to move or delete it :
